History

Collier High School opened as an accredited special education school in the mid-seventies, offering a quality education with a strong therapeutic component for students whose needs exceeded the resources of their sending districts. Several aspects of the program distinguished it at the outset:   Classes were departmentalized as opposed to self-contained, academic offerings included courses for the college-bound as well as the vocationally and artistically oriented, and individual counseling was provided weekly for all students.  From that beginning, Collier has worked to enhance every aspect of the program so that students experience the benefits of a regular school, but in a more personal and therapeutic environment.
